We’re finishing our 21st year!

Michael, what changes have you noticed at CAJ since you started in 1987? The student body has grown from 280 to 460, the curriculum now includes Advanced Placement courses, and buildings (constructed in the 1960s) have been refurbished or replaced. What’s stayed the same is CAJ’s commitment to providing Christ-centered education.

Kim, what are your CAJ students learning in English 10? After studying Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, students discussed a Biblical perspective of love, including romantic love. As a follow-up to their discussion, students wrote a memo which they could refer to when wondering if they are experiencing full-orbed love or just romantic love. I enjoyed reading the student responses, like this one:

“As a good Bible 10 student, I’m sure you know Mr. J’s favorite saying—‘Love is the sustained determination of your will to seek another’s good.’ I’m sure that right now you’d say you would be willing to do so to seek his good. However, once your euphoric feelings fade, will you really continue to do so?”

Michael, what’s your spring been like? I had a good time leading a CAJ teacher workshop entitled “Apply a Christian Worldview to Education,” facilitating 2 days of strategic planning for a mission, and providing coach training for 20 CAJ staff and missionaries. I had fun developing several CAJ teacher workshops designed to increase student application of a Biblical perspective.

Kim, how can we pray for you? Please ask God for safety and energy while we are on home assignment in the US (June 17-August 8). We’ll be in Chattanooga, TN; Grand Rapids, MI; Ancaster, Ontario; South Holland, IL; and Westminster, CA.
